Retirement Living
Options are Many and
Varied
Peter Krivel, Staff
Reporter [The
Toronto Star]
What’s the
difference between a
retirement home and
a nursing home? If
you don’t know the
answer, join the
club.
Nursing homes are
government licensed
and charge set fees,
says
Esther Goldstein,
a former social
worker at Sunnybrook
and Women’s College
Health Sciences
Centre, who has
written
A Comprehensive
Guide to Retirement
Living
in the Greater
Toronto and
Surrounding Area,
published by
Retirement
Residential
Placement Services
Inc.
Her definition of a
retirement home is
that “anyone can
hang out a shingle
and call it one.”

misconceptions about
the two, says
Goldstein, who gives
lectures on how to
choose a retirement
home to groups
ranging in age from
university students
to seniors.

Retirement
residences and retirement living information
for Ontario
For those of you
who work with or care for seniors, you may
be familiar with our annual publication and
CD: the “Comprehensive Guide to Retirement
Living™". Since
the book has been an invaluable resource
to many professionals in the retirement
industry in Ontario for several years
now, we decided to make the book
available to all online.

"We love
this Guide! It is an excellent resource and
I recommend it highly."
~ D.M.
Intake Coordinator - A Toronto Seniors'
Agency
A 'Care Home Information
Package' (CHIP) must be given to every new
resident of a retirement home before they
enter into a Tenancy Agreement.
A CHIP should include information relating
to:
Types of accommodation
Alternate packages of care services
Staffing levels and qualifications
Details on emergency response
List and fee schedule of additional services
and meals
Internal procedures for dealing with complaints including rights of appeal
"Would
like to say your website is very much
appreciated for the information accumulated
and compiled for easy viewing."
